Maybe she was better off just keeping her mouth shut. It just seemed like any time she did anything, she was always being put down or called a liar. "Whatever Lilly. Do what you want. Tell that immigration attorney everything. Lie to him. You always lie anyway."
She hadn't lied. It was the truth. But maybe silence was best. Maybe if she said nothing, things would be better for the both of them. If she didn't break the silence, her neighbor would still be okay, wouldn't she?
She could go on with her life, back to her own country and forget what happened that night. At least her neighbor would be safe and not here with him where Lilly would always be.
