They're your responsibility
When you decide to bring an animal into your life, please take care of it. Don't just feed the animal when you feel like it or play with it when it's convenient for you. And don't put those responsibilities on someone else just because you don't feel like doing it.
Animals are just like babies for the most part. They can't get into the cabinets, open their food and pour it into their bowl, they can't open the gates of their home and take their self for a walk on a leash, they can't go to the vet and get their own shots. They feel lonely and need to be around others just as people do.
Now go get me wrong, I'm not an animal rights activist, but I do believe that when you own a pet you should take care of it and be responsible for it. We spend a lot of time at our pet shop and I hear so many horror stories about people who abandon their animals because they decided after getting a pet, they were too much responsibility.
My mother I respect when it comes to animals. I grew up watching her feed and care for cats, especially. She fed them everyday, she made sure their litter box was clean and if they went outside, she put them on a leash so that they wouldn't be in danger from the streets and dogs. And she never physically abused an animal or let anyone else do it either.
So please, if you're going to bring an animal into your life, care for it as if it were your own child. Animals deserve to be cared for and respected too.
